Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove steering column lower shroud.
4. Remove center access panel and lower steering column trim panel.
5. Remove lefthand defroster connector tube.
6. Remove upper steering column attaching bolts, then lower steering column to rest on instrument panel brace. Ensure wires are not pinched when steering column is lowered.
7. Remove ignition lock as outlined under IGNITION LOCK.
8. Remove upper steering column cover.
9. Remove column lock shield.
10. Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector.
11. Remove switch attaching screws, then remove switch.
12. Reverse procedure to install. Torque ignition switch attaching screws to 50-70 inch lbs. Torque steering column lock shield attaching screws to 11-14 ft. lbs. Torque upper steering column attaching bolts to 17-23 ft. lbs.
13. Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
