Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Typical Voltage Values:

NOTES
^ The AC voltage reading from a "true RMS" type DVOM (Fluke 87) may be significantly different from a reading taken when using a "standard" or averaging type DVOM (Fluke 88, 75, etc.) leading to incorrect answers to pinpoint test questions.
^ Do not connect the positive lead of the EDIS diagnostic cable or the VR sensor tee until directed to do so.
^ The SAW and IDM detectors in the EDIS diagnostic cable will not work unless the positive and negative leads of the EDIS diagnostic cable are connected.
^ KOEO = Key On Engine Off
^ KOEC = Key On Engine Cranking
^ The vehicle battery voltage must be at least 12 volts DC.
^ Be careful not to bring a fluorescent trouble lamp close to the vehicle wiring. If the key is ON and the VRS sensor is disconnected, the EDIS module may fire the coil.
^ When using a DVOM to measure DC voltage readings, connect the positive lead to the jack identified with a (+) sign and the negative lead to the jack with a (-) sign.
^ Repetitive Spark Mode will cause coil circuits to read higher than other non-repetitive EDIS/DIS coil circuits.
^ These diagnostics (Pinpoint tests A through G) are written to catch "Hard Faults" (Due to limitations of test equipment) only; intermittent failures will be difficult or impossible to diagnose using these procedures unless the failure is consistently present when these pinpoint tests are run.
