General Testing Description

PURPOSE
The Electronic Engine Control (EEC) system utilizes a series of self-tests to monitor actuators, sensors, and normal operating parameters and to recognize fault situations.

The self-test are divided into the following tests and test modes:
- Key On Engine Off (KOEO) self-test
- Key On Engine Running (KOER) self-test
- Continuous self-test
- Cylinder Balance test mode
- Output state test
- Continuous monitor wiggle test mode

The output of these tests are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). DTCs are used to represent specific faults or conditions detected by the self-tests.

OPERATION
The continuous self-test is conducted automatically and continuously any time the key is "ON". All other tests require the technician to initiate the test through the Data Link Connector (DLC) using either an Analog Volt/Ohm Meter (VOM) and a jumper wire or a scan tool.
