Antitheft and Alarm Systems: Description and Operation
The anti-theft alarm system provides two types of vehicle protection:- Protects the vehicle from unauthorized entry into the passenger compartment and luggage compartment.
- Monitors the status of the ignition switch lock cylinder.
If triggered, the system provides both audio and visual alarm signals and disables the starter circuit.
NOTE: The system immediately monitors the ignition switch lock cylinder upon removal of the key.
- Once triggered, the system sounds the horn and flashes the low beam headlamps , parking lamps and alarm indicator on and off. Also, the starter circuit is disabled to prevent starting the vehicle until the system is disarmed.
- In addition, the system triggers an alarm if the ignition switch lock cylinder is forcibly removed.
Components
The system is composed of the following components:
- anti-theft alarm control
- anti-theft warning indicator
- door lock cylinder switches (driver and passenger)
- luggage compartment door lock cylinder switch
- ignition lock anti-theft switch
The following components already exist in the vehicle and are used in the anti-theft alarm system:
- power door lock switches
- door open warning lamp switches
- ignition switch
- horn relay and bracket and horns
- low beam headlamps
- parking lamps
- starter relay
- remote keyless entry module
The system can be armed or disarmed when following normal vehicle entrance and exit procedures.
Following is a detailed description of the system operation:
System Arming
The system will be armed when the following input sequence is followed:
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Open a door. Anti-theft indicator flashes.
3. Lock the doors with door lock switch or, upon exiting the vehicle, press lock button on keyless entry remote transmitter (anti-theft indicator on).
4. Close all doors.
5. Wait approximately 30 seconds for anti-theft indicator to go out, indicating system is armed.
Disarming an Untriggered System
1. Unlock either door with the key or, upon exiting the vehicle, press unlock button on keyless entry remote transmitter.
2. If remaining in the vehicle, turn ignition switch to RUN or ACC.
System Triggering
The alarm system will trigger if any of the following actions occur after the system has been armed:
- opening any door without first unlocking with key or unlock button of keyless entry remote transmitter.
- removing the luggage compartment lock cylinder.
- removing the ignition switch lock cylinder from the steering column tube. (This will trigger the alarm system whether the system is armed or not.)
Disarming a Triggered System
NOTE: Any of the following procedures will disarm a triggered system:
- Unlock either door with the key.
- Unlock driver door by pressing the UNLOCK button of the keyless entry remote transmitter.
Within two to three minutes after the system has been triggered, the horns and exterior lamps will shut off automatically. The system will then reset to an armed state and will trigger again if another intrusion occurs. The starter circuit will remain disabled until the system is disarmed.
Panic Alarm Activation
The PANIC alarm can only be activated from the keyless entry remote transmitter. Pressing the button marked PANIC on the keyless entry remote transmitter will sound the horn and flash the low beam headlamps and the parking lamps.
If the vehicle has a Ford remote keyless entry system, but does not have an anti-theft alarm system.
The panic alarm can be activated while the anti-theft alarm system is armed or disarmed.
The PANIC alarm can only be deactivated two ways:
- Press the PANIC button again on the keyless entry remote transmitter.
- Turn the ignition switch to RUN or ACC.
