Disassembly and Assembly
DISASSEMBLY1. Install Valve Spring Compressor T91P-6565-A under camshaft and on top of valve spring retainer (6514).
NOTE: Camshaft (6250) must be at base circle before compressing valve spring (6513). Rotate camshaft as required until all rocker arms (6564) are removed.
2. Install Valve Spring Spacer T91P-6565-AH between valve spring colis.
3. Compress valve spring far enough to remove rocker arm.
^ Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 until all rocker arms are removed.
4. Remove all valve tappets (6500).
5. Further compress valve spring and remove valve spring retainer keys (6518), valve spring retainer and valve spring.
6. Remove valve stem seal (6571) using locking pliers and remove intake valve (6507) and exhaust valves (6505).
7. Remove 14 bolts retaining camshaft bearing caps (6B280) to cylinder head (6049).
8. Tap upward on camshaft bearing caps to gradually lift camshaft bearing caps from cylinder head. Remove camshaft.
ASSEMBLY
1. Position camshaft on cylinder head. Apply oil to journals and lobes of camshaft.
2. Install and seat camshaft bearing cap. Hand-start 14 bolts.
3. Tighten camshaft bearing cap retaining bolts in sequence to 8-12 Nm (71-106 inch lbs.).
NOTE: Each camshaft bearing cap is tightened individually.
4. Loosen 14 camshaft bearing cap retaining bolts approximately two turns or until head of bolt is free.
5. Retighten all bolts in sequence to 8-12 Nm (71-106 inch lbs.).
6. Install valves into cylinder head.
NOTE: A knotted rag or similar item must be positioned under intake valve and exhaust valve to hold them in the UP position.
7. Install new valve stem seals using Valve Stem Seal Replacer T91P-6571-A.
8. Position valve spring and valve spring retainer onto valves.
9. Install Valve Spring Compressor T91P-6565-A, under camshaft and on top of valve spring retainer.
10. Install Valve Spring Spacer T91P-6565-AH between valve spring coils.
11. Compress valve spring far enough to install valve spring retainer key.
12. Repeat Steps 6 through 11 until all intake valves and exhaust valves are installed.
13. Compress valve spring using Valve Spring Compressor T91P-6565-A far enough to install rocker arm.
NOTE: Camshaft must be at base circle prior to compressing valve spring. Rotate camshaft as necessary until all rocker arms are installed.
