Special Servicing Equipment

Refrigerant recovery systems and recycling stations are in use in most automotive A/C service facilities. This equipment allows the recovery and reuse of R-134a refrigerant after contaminants and moisture have been removed.

Ford Motor Company recommends the use of a Underwriter Laboratory (U.L.) approved recovery/recycling device such as Rotunda R-134a A/C Service Center 176-00001 or equivalent (which meets SAE Standard J1991) during any A/C system service and recharge procedure.

Hoses should have shut-off devices or check valves within 30.5cm (12 inches) of the hose end. This will minimize the introduction of air into the recycling station and minimize the amount of refrigerant released when the hoses are disconnected.
