Rear

REMOVAL

NOTE: When rear disc brake rotor is removed for either rotor or hub service or replacement, the hub flange and rotor mating surface should be cleaned with a wire brush to remove rust and dirt.

1. Remove rear wheel knuckle and rear hub from vehicle.
2. Place rear wheel knuckle and rear hub assembly in a vise.
3. On vehicles with drum brakes, remove brake shoes and linings, brake shoe hold-down spring and adjuster from rear brake backing plate. Remove four screws that retain the rear brake backing plate to the rear wheel knuckle. See Brakes and Traction Control.

NOTE: There are two approved methods for removing the rear hub from the rear wheel bearing. Both methods are described.

Method One
Position a 2-3 Jaw Puller D80L-1013-A and Step Plate Adapter D80L-630-5 or equivalent on the rear wheel knuckle and press out the rear hub from the rear wheel knuckle assembly.

Method Two
Position Rear Hub Remover T89P-1225-AH. Assemble Front Hub Remover/Replacer T81P-1104-C and Step Plate Adapter D80L-630-5 or equivalent. With forcing nut below the crossbar, hold forcing screw and turn forcing nut to remove rear hub.

4. Remove the rear brake backing plate.
5. Remove bearing retainer snap ring.

6. Place rear wheel knuckle and rear wheel bearing on a press bed using Hub Support T89P-1104-A and Front Hub Bearing Remover/Replacer T83P-1104-AH2. Press rear wheel bearing out of rear wheel knuckle.

INSTALLATION
1. Place rear wheel knuckle assembly on press bed and position rear wheel bearing in the bearing bore of the rear wheel knuckle.

2. Using Bearing Replacer T86P-1104-A3, press the bearing into the rear wheel knuckle.

NOTE: Installed bearing must rest against shoulder in knuckle bore.

3. Install bearing retainer snap ring.
4. On vehicles with drum brakes, position the rear brake backing plate on the rear wheel knuckle. Install four retaining bolts and tighten to 59-80 Nm (44-59 ft. lbs.).

5. Place rear wheel knuckle on the Hub Support T89P-1104-A and position on press bed plate.

6. Position rear hub on rear wheel bearing and using Front Hub Bearing Remover/Replacer T83P-1104-AH2 and Hub Support T89P-1104-A, press rear hub into rear wheel bearing.

NOTE: If vehicle is equipped with drum brakes, install brake shoes and linings, brake shoe hold-down springs and adjuster on rear brake backing plate. See Brakes and Traction Control.

7. Prior to installation of rear hub/rear wheel bearing and rear wheel knuckle, replace bearing dust seal on the outboard CV joint with new seal.

Part 2 Of 2:

8. Install new dust seal, making sure seal flange faces outboard toward bearing. Use Spindle/Axle Seal Replacer T83T-3132-A1 and Rear Hub Dust Seal Replacer T89P-1249-A.
9. Install rear hub and rear wheel knuckle assembly on vehicle.
