PINPOINT TEST I: INCORRECT TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATION

Test I1-I3:

Test I4:

Normal Operation
Normal engine operating temperature is 140°F (60°C) to 248°F (120°C). The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor unit monitors the coolant temperature at the cylinder head and is hardwired directly to the powertrain control module (PCM) through circuit 1102 (YE/LG) and circuit 359 (GY/RD). The status of the engine coolant temperature is sent from the PCM to the instrument cluster over the SCP communication network, circuits 914 (TN/OG) and 915 (PK/LB). The instrument cluster DTC U1073 will be logged if the instrument cluster fails to receive the engine temperature status from the PCM.

Possible Causes
- circuit 1102 (YE/LG) open, short to power or ground
- circuit 359 (GY/RD) open, short to power or ground
- ECT sensor unit
- PCM
- instrument cluster
