Test A: The Red Brake Warning Indicator is Illuminated and the Yellow ABS Warning Indicator is Not Illuminated

Pinpoint Test A: The Red Brake Warning Indicator is Illuminated and the Yellow ABS Warning Indicator is Not Illuminated
Refer to Vehicle/Diagrams, Vehicle Dynamic Systems for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation
The instrument cluster will illuminate the red brake warning indicator system under 3 conditions. The first condition is when the parking brake is applied, the second condition is when the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir reaches a predetermined level and the third condition is when there are DTCs in the ABS control module. In the case of the third condition, the yellow ABS warning indicator will also be illuminated.

The smart junction box (SJB) is connected to the brake fluid level switch by circuit CMC19 (GY/VT) and the switch is connected to ground by circuit GD120 (BK/GN). The brake fluid level switch is a normally open switch, when the brake fluid reaches a predetermined level in the reservoir, the switch closes and connects circuit CMC19 (GY/VT) to circuit GD120 (BK/GN). The SJB detects this ground signal and sends a message to the instrument cluster along the high speed communication area network (HS-CAN) bus to illuminate the red brake warning indicator.

The SJB is connected to the parking brake switch by circuit CCB09 (GY/BU) and the switch is connected to ground by circuit GD182 (BK/GY). The parking brake switch is a normally open switch, when the parking brake control is applied, the switch closes and connects circuit CCB09 (GY/BU) to circuit GD182 (BK/GY). The SJB detects this ground signal and sends a message to the instrument cluster along the HS-CAN bus to illuminate the red brake warning indicator.

When DTCs are present in the ABS module, the module sends a message to the instrument cluster along the HS-CAN bus to illuminate the yellow ABS warning indicator and the red brake warning indicator.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
^ Wiring, terminals or connectors
^ Parking brake switch
^ Brake fluid level switch
^ Instrument cluster
^ SJB
