Pinpoint Test D: A Single Power Window is Inoperative - LH Rear

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 100, Power Windows for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

Under normal operation, the LH rear window control switch receives voltage from the LH front window control switch through circuit CPW14 (VT/WH) when the LH front window lockout switch is in the UNLOCK position. The LH rear window control switch provides voltage to the power window motor through circuit CPW21 (BN) and ground through circuit CPW22 (GN/VT) to operate the window downward; and voltage through circuit CPW22 (GN/VT) and ground through circuit CPW21 (BN) to operate the window upward.

When operating the LH rear window using the LH front window control switch, voltage is sent to the LH rear window control switch through circuit CPW15 (YE) and ground through circuit CPW16 (BU/OG) to operate the LH rear window downward; and voltage through circuit CPW16 (BU/OG) and ground through circuit CPW15 (YE) to operate the window upward.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- LH front window control switch
- LH rear window control switch
- LH rear window motor

PINPOINT TEST D: A SINGLE POWER WINDOW IS INOPERATIVE - LH REAR

-------------------------------------------------
D1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE LH REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH - CIRCUIT CPW14 (VT/WH)

- Disconnect: LH Rear Window Control Switch C701.
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: Make sure the LH front window lock-out switch is in the UNLOCK position.
- Measure the voltage between LH rear window control switch C701-3, circuit CPW14 (VT/WH), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to D2.

No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
D2 CHECK THE GROUND TO THE LH REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH - CIRCUITS CPW15 (YE) AND CPW16 (BU/OG)

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between LH rear window control switch C701-6, circuit CPW16 (BU/OG), harness side and ground; and between LH rear window control switch C701-1, circuit CPW15 (YE), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to D4.

No
GO to D3.

-------------------------------------------------
D3 CHECK CIRCUITS CPW15 (YE) AND CPW16 (BU/OG) FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LH Front Window Control Switch C504B.
- Measure the resistance between LH front window control switch C504B-1, circuit CPW15 (YE), harness side and LH rear window control switch C701-1, circuit CPW15 (YE), harness side.

- Measure the resistance between LH front window control switch C504B-5, circuit CPW16 (BU/OG), harness side and LH rear window control switch C701-6, circuit CPW16 (BU/OG), harness side.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new LH front window control switch. REFER to Window Control Switch Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR circuit CPW15 (YE) or CPW16 (BU/OG). TEST system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
D4 CHECK THE LH REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH

- Disconnect: LH Rear Window Control Switch C701.
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: Make sure the LH front window lock-out switch is in the UNLOCK position.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between LH rear window control switch C701-6, circuit CPW16 (BU/OG), harness side and LH rear window control switch C701-5, circuit CPW22 (GN/VT), harness side; and a second fused jumper wire between LH rear window control switch C701-3, circuit CPW14 (VT/WH), harness side and LH rear window control switch C701-2, circuit CPW21 (BN), harness side. The window should operate in the downward direction.

- Connect a fused jumper wire between LH rear window control switch C701-1, circuit CPW15 (YE), harness side and LH rear window control switch C701-2, circuit CPW21 (BN), harness side; and a second fused jumper wire between LH rear window control switch C701-3, circuit CPW14 (VT/WH), harness side and LH rear window control switch C701-5, circuit CPW22 (GN/VT), harness side. The window should operate in the upward direction.

- Does the window operate correctly?

Yes
If the LH rear window did not operate with the LH rear window control switch, INSTALL a new LH rear window control switch. REFER to Window Control Switch Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

If the LH rear power window did operate with the LH rear window control switch but not with the LH front window control switch, INSTALL a new LH front window control switch. REFER to Window Control Switch Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to D5.

-------------------------------------------------
D5 CHECK CIRCUITS CPW22 (GN/VT) AND CPW21 (BN) FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LH Rear Window Motor C703.
- Measure the resistance between LH rear window control switch C701-5, circuit CPW22 (GN/VT), harness side and LH rear window motor C703-1, circuit CPW24 (VT/BK)/CPW22 (GN/VT), harness side.

- Measure the resistance between LH rear window control switch C701-2, circuit CPW21 (BN), harness side and LH rear window motor C703-2, circuit CPW23 (GY)/CPW21 (BN), harness side.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms for both measurements?

Yes
INSTALL a new LH rear window motor. REFER to Window Regulator Motor - Rear Door Window Regulator Motor - Rear Door. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR circuit CPW21 (BN) or CPW22 (GN/VT). TEST the system for normal operation.
