Alternator: Service and Repair





Removing and Installing/Replacing Alternator



Special Tools Required:
- 11 8 401
- 11 8 402


Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Read out fault memory of EMS / DME control unit.
- Check stored fault message.
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect battery.
- Remove alternator drive belt, please refer to: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/ Engine/ Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/ Drive Belt/ Service and Repair/ Service and Repair.
- Remove front bumper trim, please refer to: Body and Frame/ Bumper/ Front Bumper/ Front Bumper Moulding/ Trim/ Service and Repair/ .







Lower front end module and install special tools 11 8 401 and 11 8 402.







Release nut and remove positive lead ( 1 ).


Tightening torque specs:
Alternator to crankcase retaining bolt 25 Nm
Power lead to alternator stud 10 Nm

Unlock plug ( 2 ) and remove.






Release screws ( 1 ) and remove alternator.

NOTE:
Now clear fault memory.
