N12 Engine in Failsafe: Fault Codes 2856 / 285A Are Stored

MODEL
R56 with the N12 engine produced up to 1/22/07

SITUATION
The Service Engine Soon Light is illuminated and the engine enters the failsafe mode. The following fault codes are stored in the DME:

2856 Valvetronic, eccentric shaft sensor: guide

285A Valvetronic, eccentric shaft sensor: reference

CAUSE

DME software sensitivity

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only and if the vehicle's integration level is R056-06-12-515 or below, reprogram and encode the vehicle using Progman V25.00.00 or higher.
