SUBJECT
Service Engine Soon Lamp Is Illuminated: DME FC 276A

MODEL
R55 Cooper Clubman and R56 Cooper with N12 engine

Vehicles produced from start of production up to December 6th, 2007

SITUATION

The customer complains that the Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated and the following fault is stored in the DME memory:

^ 276A Catalytic-converter conversion - Catalytic-converter efficiency too low.

CAUSE

The catalytic converter may be deteriorating, causing the catalytic converter monitoring to store the above fault in the DME memory.

PROCEDURE

Perform all applicable test plans for the fault stored in the DME memory. If all system and visual checks are correct, then replace the catalytic converter as per Repair Instruction RA 18 40 040, Removing and installing/replacing exhaust manifold (N12). At the conclusion of the test plan, feedback will required for the cause of the complaint before the Diagnosis Code is provided.
