SUBJECT
[NEW] R55, R56, R57, R60 with F21 Transmission - Warning Lamp Illuminated with FC A0B6

MODEL
R55, R56, R57, R60 (Cooper, Cooper S) with F21 ASIN 6-speed automatic transmission

SITUATION

Intermittently, the transmission warning lamp ("gear indicator") is displayed (in some instances, when the ignition is turned off). Also, the selector lever could not be moved out of the P position. Fault code A0B6 (Selector lever interlock signal, above threshold) may be stored in the CAS module.

[NEW] CAUSE

Incorrect adjustment of the gearshift cable at the transmission selector level or sluggish movement of the shift lock solenoid lever due to outside influence (fluid spillage in the shifter area)

CORRECTION

[NEW] Fluid damage:

Inspect the shifter for any signs of liquid spillage. Failure or malfunction of the shifter (e.g., impaired movement of the lock solenoid lever) due to external influences (e.g., coffee, soda spillage) does not constitute a defect in workmanship or material, and the resulting shifter replacement cannot be covered under the MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty.

Gearshift cable adjustment required:

Adjust the gearshift selector cable according to Repair Instruction REP24 10 018. After the adjustment is performed, the M8 tightening nut of the transmission selector lever should be torqued to 12 Nm. Do not replace any components. Clear the fault memory and test drive the vehicle.

Note:
On vehicles produced from 03/01/2008 to 03/31/2008, if fault code A0B6 is stored in the CAS module, the Steptronic gearshift assembly (P/N 25 16 7 577 589) should be replaced. For the replacement procedure, refer to REP25 16 056.
