SUBJECT
Door Latch/Window Symptom Diagnosis

MODEL
R56 (Cooper and Cooper S)

SITUATION
Symptom diagnosis has been expanded to include the door latch and window systems.

Symptom diagnosis includes topics from the following categories:

^ Functional/Mechanical Failures

^ Noises

As of DIS V52, symptom diagnosis is updated periodically, so always use the current DIS version when performing symptom diagnosis.

CAUSE
Due to the complexity of current vehicle systems, it is becoming more difficult to test and repair these systems using straightforward diagnosis.

The information in symptom diagnosis is based on technician feedback and experiences dealing with these symptoms.

PROCEDURE

1. Identify the exact customer complaint.

2. Perform a short test using the latest version of diagnostic software.

3. Symptom diagnosis for these systems may be found using either procedure 1 or procedure 2 as follows:

Procedure 1 (via Fault symptom selection)

4. Page right to the "Diagnosis Fault symptom selection" screen.

5. Select "5120 Locking systems".

6. Select the symptom which best fits the customer complaint. The following selections are available
(note: symptoms may vary slightly with each new DIS version and model selection):

^ "512031 Doors producing noises"

^ "512035 Faulty opening/closing of a door"

^ "512022 Power window malfunction"

^ "512036 Comfort access faulty".

7. Once the symptom is selected, press the "Transfer" button to move the symptom into the "Accepted symptoms" field.

8. Page right and highlight the test plan associated with your symptom selection.

9. Start the test plan and finish the diagnosis.

Procedure 2 (via Function Selection)

4. Select the "Function selection" button.

5. Select "Complete vehicle"/"Body"/"Locking and security functions".

6. Depending on the nature of the complaint, select one of the following:

^ "Door mechanism"/"door noises"

^ "Door mechanism"/"door functions".

7. Select the "Test plan" button.

8. Follow the test plan through to the end for the appropriate recommendation and diagnostic code.
