SUBJECT
Auxiliary Water Pump Faults

MODEL
All models with N14 and N18 Engine

SITUATION

Check Control message (CC message) "Engine is too hot" is displayed and/or the following faults are stored in the DME:

For N14:

^ 2F37 - auxiliary water pump, actuation, open circuit

^ 2F36 - auxiliary water pump, actuation, short-circuit to earth

^ 2F35 - auxiliary water pump, actuation, short-circuit to positive

For N18:

^ 3786 - auxiliary coolant pump, actuation, open circuit

^ 3785 - auxiliary coolant pump, actuation, short-circuit to earth

^ 3784 - auxiliary coolant pump, actuation, short-circuit to positive

CAUSE

The auxiliary water pump (for the turbocharger) intermittently doesn't power up, due to internal component failure.

PROCEDURE

Check that the electrical connector to the coolant pump is locked in properly and that there is battery voltage at the pump. If no fault can be found with the connector or supply voltage, replace the auxiliary water pump for the turbocharger with an improved pump (refer to parts information). Refer to Repair Instruction RA11 53 590 for replacement of the pump and proper coolant bleeding procedures.
