SUBJECT
Front Safety Belt Is Twisted or Slow to Retract
MODEL
R57 (Cooper Convertible and Cooper S Convertible) produced up to December 2, 2009
SITUATION
When the front seat safety belt retracts into the side panel, it becomes twisted inside the panel. Even when untwisted, the belt may retract slowly.
CAUSE
The safety belt has become twisted inside the side panel.
CORRECTION
Install seatbelt anti-twist guides and new retractors if necessary.
PROCEDURE
1. Refer to the attached procedure, SIM720109 Procedure.pdf, to modify the side panels and install an anti-twist guide to both the left and right safety belts.
2. If the safety belt is still retracting slowly, replace the affected retractor only with an updated part per Repair Instruction REP 72 11 033. This is not necessary in most cases.
