Mixing Refrigerants

Under no circumstances should a system be charged with any refrigerant other than the refrigerant specified on the labels on the vehicle. To do so contaminates the system and can cause damage to the system and the equipment. Damage may include compressor failure, damage to recycling equipment, and transfer of contaminated refrigerant to other vehicles. If R12 and R134a are mixed, the mixture cannot be readily identified. Also, increases in system pressure of as much as 25% can occur, resulting in performance degradation and possible system damage.
