Toe-In

Fig. 4 Toe setting:

DESCRIPTION

As viewed from above, the wheels must be set so that distances A and B, Fig. 4, measured at wheel rims and at axle height, are different at a given value. If distance A is smaller than distance B, the setting is known as toe-in. If distance A is greater than distance B, the setting is known as toe-out. The toe setting is given in inches (mm) and refers to the difference between A and B. If distances A and B are the same, the toe setting is 0.

FRONT TOE-IN, ADJUST

Less 4 Wheel Drive

1. Adjust toe-in by turning left tie rod turnbuckle. Toe-in is increased by turning tie rod toward front of vehicle or decreased by turning tie rod toward rear of vehicle. One complete turn of turnbuckle changes toe-in adjustment by approximately .3 in.
2. After adjusting toe-in, check difference in length of left and right tie rods. If difference is greater than .2 in., remove right tie rod and adjust length until difference is reduced to .2 in. or less. ``L'' stamped on outer surface of tie rod indicates left hand thread.

With 4 Wheel Drive

1. Adjust toe-in by turning left and right tie rod turnbuckles equal amounts in opposite directions.
2. Toe-in on left wheel is reduced by turning tie rod toward front of vehicle or increased by turning tie rod toward rear of vehicle. Toe-in on right wheel is reduced by turning tie rod toward rear of vehicle or increased by turning tie rod toward front of vehicle. A half turn of turnbuckles changes toe-in approximately .3 in.
