Recall - Carburetor Modification: Overview
90mitsubishi12 SUBJECT:1986 2.0L FEDERAL TRUCK EMISSION
RECALL
NO. EMR-90-012 REVISION
DATE September, 1990
MODEL 1986 Truck
This bulletin supercedes EMR-90-012, Dated August 1990, which should be discarded.
PURPOSE
This bulletin provides a detailed procedure for inspection and repair of the emission control system on certain 1986 2.0L Federal Emission Specification Truck models. A letter has been sent to all owners of the affected vehicles telling them to return their vehicles to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the engine serviced. A copy of this letter is shown on Page 7 of this bulletin.
Please note that the customer is not to be charged for the repairs covered by this bulletin. To achieve the desired results, the procedure described in this bulletin MUST be followed EXACTLY and the checklist supplied in the Emissions Kit should be used to ensure that all items are completed.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
All dealerships MUST perform all steps described in this bulletin. Incomplete repairs will lead to emissions non-compliance and obvious customer dissatisfaction. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will survey the results of this campaign several months after starting. If incomplete repairs or non-compliance is found, another recall could be ordered or other action undertaken by EPA.
Furthermore, the EPA may consider failure to properly perform emission recall procedures as tampering, which may subject the servicing dealer to a fine of up to
$10,000 per vehicle. Confirm that you are using the proper Technical Service Bulletin repair procedures and service kits for the vehicle model year and engine size that you are working on. Service procedures and kits are different even though some vehicles may look alike.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This procedure applies to 1986 2.0L Federal Emission Specification Truck models with manual or automatic transmission without limitation as to mileage. It does not apply any other models.
