Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection


POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) SYSTEM INSPECTION

1. Visually inspect PCV system hoses for cracking, proper connection, and obstructions.
2. Replace any worn or damaged components of the PCV system.

POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) SYSTEM INSPECTION

1. Remove the PCV valve from the rocker cover.
2. Attach a clean hose to the PCV valve cylinder head side.
3. Verify that air passes through easily when you blow into the PCV valve cylinder head side.

CAUTION: Do not suck air through the PCV valve. Petroleum substances inside the valve are harmful.

4. Attach the hose to the intake manifold side of the PCV valve.
5. Verify that air passes through with difficulty when you blow into the hose.
6. If the PCV valve fails either of these checks replace it.
