Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cables, then remove battery with tray from vehicle.
2. On Cordia and Tredia models, remove radiator reservoir tank and windshield washer fluid tank.
3. On all models, remove air cleaner case if necessary.
4. Disconnect throttle control cable from carburetor or kickdown cable from engine side, then the control cable from transaxle.
5. Disconnect inhibitor switch electrical connector, oil cooler lines and speedometer cable from transaxle. Cap oil cooler lines immediately after disconnecting.
6. Disconnect pulse generator and solenoid valve electrical connectors, if equipped.
7. On all models, remove starter motor.
8. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels and under cover.
9. Drain transaxle fluid into a suitable container.
10. Remove strut bars and stabilizer bar from lower arms.
11. Remove right and left driveshafts from transaxle and position aside.
12. Remove bellhousing cover, then the torque converter attaching bolts. Rotate crankshaft as necessary to gain access to all three bolts. After removing attaching bolts, push torque converter into transaxle, so as not to leave the torque converter in the engine.
13. Remove the five upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
14. Support transaxle with a suitable jack, then remove remaining transaxle mounting bolts.
15. Remove transaxle mount insulator bolts.
16. On Cordia and Tredia models, remove blank cap from inside the right fender shield, then the installation bolts.
17. On all models, remove transaxle insulator bracket, then the mount bracket.
18. Slide transaxle to the right, then lower the assembly from the vehicle.
19. Reverse procedure to install. Install torque converter first to the transaxle, then to the engine.
