PURPOSE

A design change made to the KM170-series transmission case in October, 1985 requires a new gasket at the front pump-to-case mounting surface. This new gasket has an additional hole in it to vent the case. If the old gasket is used on the newer case, pressure can build up inside the case causing the transmission fluid to be forced out.

PARTS

The new gasket number is MD722385. The old gasket number is MD707588.

There are also transmission overhaul repair kits MD997763 and MD997722. The kits in stock as of the date of this Bulletin contain the old gaskets. If you use one of these repair kits on the newer transmission, please obtain and use two oil pump gaskets MD722385 in place of the oil pump gaskets in the set.

The new gasket will be included in all repair kits in the new future, since the new gasket can be used on both the old transmission and the new one.
