Idle Up Control Valve: Testing and Inspection
Throttle Opener Solenoid Schematic A/C Only:
To test the Air Conditioning Signal to the ECU,
1. Disconnect the ECU connector and locate pin 54 on the ECU harness connector.
2. Using a voltmeter test for the presence of power with the ignition and A/C switches in the "on" position. Battery voltage should be available in the "on" position and 0 volts should be present in the "off" position.
3. Reconnect the ECU connector and backprobe the connector at terminal 54. Start the engine and let it idle. Turn on the air conditioning and measure the voltage. There should be 0 - 0.6 Volts.
3. Run the engine at 2,000 RPM and measure the voltage. There should be 9 - 15 Volts.
If there is no power at the ECU, the air conditioning circuits should be checked. Refer to HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING.
1. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (connector for the Idle Up Solenoid Valve or connector for the Throttle Opening Solenoid Valve, refer to ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DIAGRAMS).
2. Test for resistance across the two connector terminals.
Standard Value
38-44 ohm @ 20°C (68°F)
3. If the solenoid valve's resistance is out of the standard value limits replace the solenoid.
