Unit Disassembly and Reassembly

Distributor Components:






DISASSEMBLY:

1. Lightly clamp the distributor in a vise equipped with soft jaws.
2. Pull off the rotor from the rotor shaft.
3. Remove the vacuum controller mounting screws.

Igniter R&R:





4. Remove mounting screws and remove igniter and pick-up coil.
5. Remove lead wires.
6. Remove link of vacuum controller from pin on the breaker plate, then remove controller.
7. Remove the signal rotor shaft screw and breaker plate retaining screws.
8. Remove the breaker plate assembly.
9. Remove signal rotor shaft and governor assembly.
10. Remove two spring retainers with pliers and then remove governor springs.
11. Remove governor weights.
12. Mark location of drive gear on distributor shaft.

Distributor Drive Gear Removal:





13. Drive out the roll pin by using a pin punch.
14. Remove drive gear and washer
15. Remove distributor shaft from housing.

REASSEMBLY:

DISTRIBUTOR SHAFT:
After coating the shaft with a small amount of engine oil, insert the shaft into the distributor housing.
CAUTION: Do not use solvent or similar products.


DRIVE GEAR:
1. Align the drive gear with the mark made at the time of disassembly, and install the gear to the distributor shaft.
2. When aligning the drive gear's mating mark to the housing's mark, If no errors where made in either the marking or alignment procedures the pin holes should align properly. Drive in a new roll pin.

GOVERNOR AND PLATE ASSEMBLY:

1. Install governor weights on the signal rotor shaft.
2. Install governor springs and spring retainer.
3. Install signal rotor shaft into distributor shaft.
4. Install breaker plate into housing.
Tignten the breaker plate screws.
6. Install signal rotor to rotor shaft. Fit the signal rotor so that the dowel pin fits on the rotor shaft.
7. Install pick-up coil and ignitor to breaker plate and install screws.

Igniter R&R:





8. Connect lead wires to igniter.

Air Gap Measurement Location:





9. Adjust air gap between signal rotor and pick-up of igniter. DO NOT use a feeler gauge that is affected by magnetic effects.

AIR GAP: 0.2 - 0.4 mm (.008 - .015 in.)

10. Connect vacuum control link to breaker plate and tighten vacuum controller screws.
