OPERATION

This vehicle uses an oxygen sensor mounted in the exhaust manifold to provide the ECU with feedback control information concerning fuel-air mixture. The oxygen sensor is based on an oxygen concentration cell device.


Oxygen Sensor Voltage vs Fuel/Air Ratio:





The oxygen concentration cell is characterized by a sharp change in output Voltage at the stoichiometric mixture.


Catalytic Converter Performance:





Based on information from the oxygen sensor the ECU will adjust the fuel air ratio to achieve stoichiometric combustion allowing the catalytic converter to operate at its optimum purification rate.
