AUDIO SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS

This bulletin supercedes TSB-98-54-OO1, to include the Car Audio Complaint Checklist.

PURPOSE

This bulletin contains diagnosis information for troubleshooting audio system complaints. Following these diagnosis procedures will help to prevent unnecessary audio unit replacement, and improve customer satisfaction through higher Fixed Right scores.

PROCEDURE

Note the customer's concerns regarding the audio problem. Then refer to the "Audio Complaint Diagnosis" chart. The chart indicates the appropriate troubleshooting procedure in this bulletin.

In some instances, it may be helpful to perform audio system testing using a known good component (e.g., antenna, CD player, DIN cable, etc.).* Refer to Section 54 (under "Radio and Tape Player") in the appropriate service manual for additional audio system troubleshooting information.





IMPORTANT
All replacement audio units contain a copy of the Mitsubishi Motors Car Audio Complaint Checklist. It audio unit replacement is necessary, the Checklist must be completed and returned with the old unit. A sample copy of the Checklist appears in this bulletin.





NOTE:

* Service Advisors: If the customer indicates that CD skipping occurs only with a particular CD, ask to borrow the CD from the customer for diagnosis.





AUDIO COMPLAINT DIAGNOSIS

Identify the trouble symptom, then refer to the corresponding troubleshooting chart in this bulletin. If the problem appears to be caused by an audio component (speakers, amplifier, etc.), install a new component and retry operation. If the symptom is eliminated with the new component, replace the old component.
