Air Bag Systems: Description and Operation

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) consists of left and right front impact sensors, drivers and front passengers air bag modules, and the SRS diagnosis unit, which contains a safing impact sensor.
The air bags will deploy when the safing sensor and either or both impact sensors simultaneously activate while the ignition is turned On. This is designed to occur in frontal or near frontal impacts of moderate to severe force.
