Radio Reception

POOR RADIO RECEPTION

Poor radio reception is classified into three types:

1. Noise (AM mode only) - Caused by an external source such as high voltage power lines, ignition noise, or switch noise.

2. Poor Sensitivity (AM and FM modes) - Can be either an antenna-related or an audio system problem.

3. Interference (AM and FM modes) - Caused by either external radio waves or a transmission antenna nearby.

When a customer complains of poor radio reception, check the radio reception in another vehicle of the same model.

When a customer complains of noise, check if the noise occurs only under specific conditions such as those listed below. If it does, then check for the same noise in another similar model vehicle, under the same conditions.

1. Certain driving speeds

2. Certain road surfaces

3. Near certain buildings

4. Turn signals on

5. Certain times of day or night

DOES NOT RECEIVE RADIO SIGNAL

^ If the radio reception is the same as in the customer's vehicle, explain to the customer that there is no problem with the vehicle.

^ If the radio reception is OK in the other vehicle, refer to Multi-Center Display Only in this bulletin for troubleshooting ignition or alternator noise.
