CHILD SAFETY SEAT UPPER TETHER ANCHOR KITS
PURPOSE
This bulletin contains information about child safety seat tether anchor kits which are available for certain Mitsubishi vehicles.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Most Mitsubishi vehicles since 1986 have child safety seat tether mount anchor holes with weld nut receivers for installing upper tether anchor kits. Kits for most of these models are supplied at no charge by Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. All 2000 model vehicles with the exception of the Montero have these anchor mount holes. Most late production 2000 model year vehicles also have the upper tether anchor mounts installed at the factory.
NOTE: Convertibles (3000GT Spyder & Eclipse Spyder) are not required to have upper tether anchor mounts.

Upper Tether Anchor Mount Kit Installation
Using the supplied hardware, install the kit as shown in the illustrations. Torque the securing bolt to the proper value: 22 Nm (16 ft-lb).
A = Diamante, Galant, Mirage
B = Montero Sport
C = Eclipse Coupe
NOTE: The tether strap hook shown in these illustrations is a part of the child safety seat top strap (tether). The hook and the top strap are NOT included in the upper tether anchor mount kit.
Child Safety Seat Installation
If your child safety seat has a top strap, hook the top strap hook to the anchor bracket as shown, then tighten the top strap.
A = Eclipse Coupe, Diamante, Galant, Mirage
B = Montero Sport
WARNING! DO NOT use the top strap if the child safety seat is used in the front passenger seat.
PARTS INFORMATION
The child safety seat tether anchor kits listed below can be ordered from your regional PDC. These kits are provided at no cost to the dealer and customer.
NOTE: Anchor kits are not available from MMSA for 3000GT Spyder, Cordia, Eclipse Spyder, 1988 and earlier Galant*, 1990 and earlier Mirage*, 2000 and earlier Montero, Mighty Max Truck, Precis*, Starion, Tredia*, and Van/Wagon models, however; vehicles noted (*) do have tether anchor holes. For these vehicles with the anchor holes, use the universal tether anchor kit included with the child safety seat, making sure a metric bolt is utilized. Universal kits cannot be installed on vehicles without the tether anchor holes. For more information, refer to the vehicle's owner's manual.
