Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
OBD-II DRIVE CYCLEAll kinds of diagnostic trouble code can be monitored by carrying out a short drive in accordance with the following six drive cycle patterns. In other words, doing such a drive allows to regenerate any kind of trouble which involves illuminating the check engine/malfunction indicator lamp and to check the repair procedure has eliminated the trouble (the check engine/malfunction indicator lamp is no more illuminated.)
CAUTION: Make sure that a road test is performed with two persons aboard.
1. Catalytic converter monitor (P0421, P0431)
Test conditions and procedures
1. Perform a road test in a state where all of the following conditions are satisfied.
(1) Atmospheric temperature: -10°C (14°F) or higher
(2) A/T conditions:
- Selector lever position: D range
- Overdrive switch: ON
- Power/economy changeover switch: Power
(3) A/C switch: OFF
2. One trip monitoring is completed by making a trip in the following pattern (from when the engine is started to when the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position). (Required time approx. 20 minutes)
*1: Start the engine and quickly accelerate it until the vehicle speed exceeds 72 km/h (45 mph).
*2: Preliminary period before monitoring: While maintaining the vehicle speed within a range from 72 to 97 km/h (45 to 60 mph), continue to travel for more than 300 seconds. Depressing the brake pedal (for a few seconds at a time) during the period does not present any problem.
*3: Decelerate the engine until the vehicle speed falls within a range from 56 to 64 km/h (35 to 40 mph).
<>4:Monitoring in progress. While maintaining the throttle opening constant (minimize the amount the throttle is changed) on a flat surface and keeping the vehicle speed within a range from 56 to 64 km/h (35 to 40 mph), continue to travel for more than 90 seconds.
*5: Fully close the throttle to decelerate the engine. (In this case, you may depress the brake pedal.)
After keeping the decelerated state for 10 seconds, quickly accelerate the engine until the vehicle speed reaches any speed between 56 and 64 km/h (35 and 40 mph). Thereafter, repeat <>4 and *5 six times. (Make sure that the number of times the <>4 and *5 hold good totals 6.)
*6: Decelerate the engine and stop the vehicle. After the vehicle has come to a stop, set the ignition switch to OFF.

2. Evaporative emission control system leak monitor (P0442, P0450, P0455)
Test conditions and procedures
1. Perform a road test in a state where all of the following conditions are satisfied.
(1) Engine coolant temperature: 45°C (113°F) or less (before starting drive test, engine stopped)
(2) Atmospheric temperature: 5°C (41°F) or more, 45°C (113°F) or less
(3) A/T conditions:
- Selector lever position: D range
- Overdrive switch: ON
2. One trip monitoring is completed by making a trip in the following pattern (from when the engine is started to when the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position). (Required time approx. 8 minutes)
*1: Check that both engine coolant temperature and air intake temperature satisfy requirement 1 (It takes approx. 8 minutes.)
*2: Monitor preparation period; Start the engine and accelerate to 89 - 97 km/h (55 - 60 mph). For this period, acceleration, deceleration, or braking may be carried out.
Continue driving between 89 and 97 km/h (55 and 60 mph) for 200 seconds or more. For this period, braking or throttle operation may be carried out if vehicle speed is within the specified value.
<>3: Drive between 89 and 97 km/h (55 and 60 mph) at a constant throttle angle (by not moving the throttle pedal as much as possible) for 150 seconds or more during monitor. Moreover, do not turn the steering wheel suddenly.
*4: Decelerate and stop the vehicle. After stop, turn off the ignition switch.

*2:Start the engine and quickly accelerate it until the vehicle speed reaches any speed between 56 and 64 km/h (35 and 40 mph).
<>3: Monitoring in progress.
