Inspection Procedure 3
"SECURITY" Indicator Light Circuit:
Connectors:
CIRCUIT OPERATION
If the requirements for starting the engine are not satisfied, the immobilizer-ECU flashes the "SECURITY" indicator for thirty seconds.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
There may be burned out bulb of the "SECURITY" indicator light or a malfunction of the combination meter (printed-circuit board) or immobilizer-ECU.
NOTE: The "SECURITY" indicator light is shared by the theft-alarm system. If a problem can not be resolved, observe the theft-alarm system diagnosis.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- Burned out bulb of "SECURITY" indicator light
- Malfunction of combination meter (printed-circuit board)
- Malfunction of immobilizer-ECU
- Damaged harness wires or connectors
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
MB991223: Harness Set
MB991502: Scan Tool (MUT-II)
STEP 1. Check the "SECURITY" indicator light circuit of immobilizer-ECU connector C-107.
1. Remove the immobilizer-ECU and measure at the harness side.
2. Connect terminal 9 to the ground.
- The "SECURITY" indicator light should illuminate.
If the indicator light does not illuminate, go to Step 2.
If the indicator light illuminates, replace the immobilizer-ECU.
Then register the password (secret code) and encrypted code.
Programming and Relearning
The "SECURITY" indicator light should illuminate.
STEP 2. Check the "SECURITY" indicator.
"SECURITY" INDICATOR CONTINUITY CHECK
If continuity, go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check immobilizer-ECU connector C-107 and security indicator C-42 for damage.
If immobilizer-ECU connector C-107 and security indicator connector C-108 are damaged, repair or replace them. Refer to Harness connector Inspection. The "SECURITY" indicator light should illuminate.
If these connectors are in good condition, go to Step 4.
STEP 4. Check the harness wire between immobilizer-ECU connector C-107 and security indicator connector C-108.
If the harness wires between immobilizer-ECU connector C-107 and combination meter connector C-108 are damaged, repair them.
The "SECURITY" indicator light should illuminate.
If the harness wires are in good condition, go to Step 5.
STEP 5. Check the harness wire between security indicator connector C-108 and battery.
NOTE: After checking IOD or storage connector A-54X and joint connector C-11 and junction block connector D-01 and D-14, check the wires.
If any of IOD or storage connector A-54X and joint connector C-11 and junction block connector D-01 and D-14 is/are damaged, repair or replace. Refer to If the harness wires between combination meter connector C-108 and battery are damaged, repair them.
The "SECURITY" indicator light should illuminate.
