DIAGNOSIS

NOTE: In addition to disassembling and replacing the failed parts, be sure to check all components for irregularities and repair or replace as necessary.

STEP 1. Check the drive gear backlash.
If faulty, adjust it. Then go to Step 5.
If normal, go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check the drive pinion preload (low).
If faulty, adjust it. Then go to Step 5.
If normal, go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the side bearing preload (low).
If faulty, adjust it. Then go to Step 5.
If normal, go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check for looseness of the drive gear tightening bolt.
If loose, tighten to 78 - 88 Nm (58 - 65 ft. lbs.) and apply 3M(TM) Stud Locking 4170 or equivalent. Then go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check symptoms. Check that there is no damage.
