DRIVER'S SEAT REAR ANCHOR BOLTS
- SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
Incorrect rear anchor bolts may have been installed on the driver's seat during vehicle production. In an accident, the bolts may not properly secure the seat, and cause increased injury to the driver.
Dealers must inspect the driver's seat rear anchor bolts as described in this bulletin to determine whether the correct bolts are installed. If the incorrect bolts are installed on the vehicle, replace the bolts (see PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin).
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2001 Galant, Eclipse, and Eclipse Spyder models produced on 11/9/00
IMPORTANT
Affected inventory vehicles must be inspected/repaired before the vehicle is sold. Dealers must check their inventory vehicles' VINs on the Warranty Super Screen to verify whether the vehicle is an affected VIN for this recall campaign.
AFFECTED VEHICLES - SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN SR-01-003 (Last 8 numbers of VIN listed).
For your convenience, a complete list of the affected vehicles for this recall campaign is shown.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles telling them to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the driver's seat rear anchor bolts inspected. A copy of the customer notification letter is shown.
REQUIRED OPERATIONS
CHECK ON THE WARRANTY SUPERSCREEN to verify that the vehicle is an affected VIN for this campaign and that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.
1. Adjust the driver's seat to its fully forward position.
2. Remove the rear anchor bolt cover from each side of the driver's seat.
3. Inspect the two rear anchor bolt heads.
a. If there is a number "7" on the bolt head, it is the correct bolt. Go to Step 4.
b. If there is a number "4" on the bolt head, replace the bolt with the bolt listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin. Tighten the bolt to 44 Nm (33 ft/lbs).
4. Reinstall the anchor boll covers.
5. Adjust the seat to its normal position.
