Audio System - Poor AM Radio Reception

POOR AM RADIO RECEPTION

PURPOSE
Some affected vehicles may experience poor or no AM radio reception due to static electricity at the input terminal of the antenna. If a vehicle has this condition, replace the antenna base as described in the PROCEDURE section of this bulletin.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2005-2006 Outlander

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the antenna rod assembly.

2. Remove the rear dome light.





3. Remove the three rear headliner buttons as follows:

a. Insert the corner of a credit card between the head of the button and the headliner. Then slip a piece of plastic from a plastic bag between the credit card and headliner.

b. Remove the credit card and wrap the piece of plastic bag around the button.

c. Pull downward on the piece of plastic bag to remove the headliner button.

4. Carefully lower the rear of the headliner and disconnect the antenna feeder cable assembly.





5. Remove the antenna nut.

6. Remove the antenna base.

7. Install the new antenna base.





IMPORTANT!
Check the production date printed on the wire coming out of the antenna base. The countermeasure parts were produced after November 10, 2006 and should have C6B1003 or later printed on the cable. The second digit is the last digit of the year (6=2006), the third-digit is the month (A=October, B=November, C=December, 1=January, 2=February) and the fourth and fifth-digit is the day (10=the tenth day of the month).

8. Tighten the antenna nut to 27+/- 9 in lbs (3.0+/- 1 Nm).

9. Reconnect the antenna feeder assembly.

10. Reinstall the three headliner buttons.

11. Reinstall the rear dome light.

12. Reinstall the antenna rod assembly.

13. Verify the condition is resolved.
