GENERIC PCM REPLACEMENT ON RAIDER
PURPOSE
All replacement PCMS for Raider models are blank (generic) when received from Parts. After the generic PCM is installed in the vehicle, it must be programmed in order for the vehicle to operate. The VIN and mileage must also be programmed. Poor vehicle performance will result if programming is not completed. This bulletin contains instructions for programming the replacement PCM, VIN and vehicle mileage.

PROCEDURE
CAUTION
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PROGRAM A PCM TAKEN FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE. DAMAGE WILL OCCUR! BATTERY VOLTAGE (AS MEASURED AT THE BATTERY POSTS WITHOUT ELECTRICAL LOAD) MUST BE 12.4V OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO PROGRAM THE PCM.
The equipment shown is needed to program a generic PCM.
1. After the generic PCM has been installed in the vehicle, connect the equipment as follows:
a. Start the laptop computer.
b. Connect the USB cable to the VCI.
c. When the laptop displays the MUT-III main screen, connect the USB cable to the laptop.
d. Connect the blue MUT-III main harness to the VCI.
e. Connect the other end of the blue MUT-III main harness to the vehicle's data link connector.
f. Turn the VCI power switch ON. Verify that the indicator lamp in the upper right corner of the screen is green.
NOTE:
If the USB cable is disconnected during this procedure, a warning message will display. Close the message display by clicking on the OK button.
2. Unplug the ABS ECU, located in the engine compartment on the driver's side.
3. Refer to the "Raider ECU Part Number & ECU Calibration" chart on the Mitsubishi Dealer Link in the Service Tech Resources page to identify the appropriate calibration for this programming.
4. In the Raider main menu, select Special Function.
5. Select ECU Reprogramming.
6. Select Automatic Reprogramming.
7. Select PCM.
^ Then click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen.
8. Click on the check mark to continue.
a. If this screen displays, the PCM was not programmed and is still blank.
^ A "Reprogramming Data List" will display.
^ Select the part number that matches the calibration identified in Step 3 from the "Raider ECU Part Number & ECU Calibration" chart.
b. If this screen displays, select the programming database (calibration) that was identified in Step 3 from the "Raider ECU Part Number & ECU Calibration" chart.
^ Then click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen.
9. Click on the check mark to continue.
^ It will take up to 10 minutes to complete the programming.
^ DO NOT DISTURB THE HARNESS CABLES OR CONNECTIONS INTERRUPTION DURING PROGRAMMING REQUIRES THE PROCESS TO BE RESTARTED. DO NOT SHUT DOWN THE RAIDER STV PROGRAM AT THIS POINT. ECU DAMAGE WILL OCCUR. FOLLOW THE MUT-III.
^ SCREEN DISPLAY MESSAGES TO RESTART THE PROGRAMMING PROCESS.
10. When programming is complete, this screen will display. Turn the ignition key OFF.
^ You will be prompted to turn the key back on within 20 seconds of turning it off.
^ Then this screen will display to verify completion of programming.
11. Program the VIN as follows:
a. MODELS EQUIPPED WITH WCM:
^ Transfer the key and VIN information to the PCM as follows:
Note:
To complete this process, you will need the 4-digit "DCX pin code" from the Warranty SuperScreen.
(1) Return to the System Select menu.
(2) Select WCM.
(3) Select Miscellaneous Function.
(4) Select PCM Replaced. You will be prompted to enter the 4-digit "DCX pin code."
b. MODELS NOT EQUIPPED WITH WCM:
^ You must manually enter the VIN to the PCM as follows:
(1) Return to the System Select menu.
(2) Select PCM.
(3) Select Miscellaneous Function.
(4) Select Check PCM VIN.
(5) The message "The VIN is invalid.
^ OK button to change the "VIN" may display. Click on the check mark, then manually input the VIN.
12. Program the vehicle's mileage into the PCM as follows:
a. In the Raider main menu, select System Select.
b. Select PCM. Then click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen.
c. Select Misc. Function.
d. Select Check PCM Odometer. Then click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen.
e. Follow the on-screen instruction.
^ Click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen after each step.
f. Select "YES" to verify that the PCM odometer reads the same mileage as the odometer on the instrument panel cluster. Then click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen.
^ If the PCM odometer mileage does not match the mileage on the instrument panel cluster, select "NO". Then click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen.
^ On the next screen, enter the correct mileage from the instrument panel cluster.
^ Click again on the check mark at the bottom of the screen. This screen will display.
13. Reconnect the ABS ECU.
14. Clear all DTCs as follows:
a. Return to the Raider main menu and select Special Function.
^ Select All DTCs.
b. Click on the Erase button at the bottom of the screen.
c. Verify that there are now no DTCs listed.
15. Using a ball-point pen, enter the new ECU part number, your dealer code, and the current date on the Engine Compartment/Control Module Label (part no. MSSF-024G-00).
NOTE:
For Raider models, there is no vendor code or ROM ID to be recorded on the label.
16. Carefully remove all dirt and oil from a vacant area near the VECI label on the underside of the hood, and affix the Engine Compartment label.
17. Affix the Control Module label to the PCM.
