A/T, Engine Controls - A/T Defaults to Neutral
No. TSB-07-23-007DATE: August, 2007
MODEL: 2007 Raider
PCM REPROGRAMMING FOR 545RFE
TRANSMISSION DEFAULTS TO NEUTRAL
PURPOSE
On some affected vehicles, the transmission may default into neutral gear if the transmission gear selector is moved into "reverse gear range" under certain operating conditions.
The default into neutral gear is done to protect the transmission mechanical components from potential damage. New PCM software will monitor transmission hydraulic pressure and allow reverse gear engagement, if the transmission is in "reverse gear range" and the transmission hydraulic pressure is sufficient to support reverse gear operation.
To eliminate this condition, reprogram the PCM according to the instructions in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2007 Raider with 4.7L V8 with 545RFE transmission built on or before March 26, 2007.
PROCEDURE
The following equipment is needed to reprogram the PCM.
^ VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) - MB991824
^ Laptop computer - 520924 or 528535
^ MUT-III main harness A (blue) - MB991910
^ USB 2.0 cable - MB991827
^ "Engine Compartment/Control Module" labels - p/n MSSF-024G-00
^ MEDIC II at version 4.0A or higher.
^ MUT-III STV 17.0/RAIDER STV at version 3.5 or higher.
BATTERY VOLTAGE MUST BE MAINTAINED BETWEEN 13.2 AND 13.5 VOLTS. CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE BATTERY AND CHARGE IT IF NECESSARY. CONNECT A BATTERY CHARGER SET TO CONTINUOUS CHARGE TO THE BATTERY. DO NOT ALLOW THE CHARGER TO 'TIME OUT' DURING THE REPROGRAMMING PROCESS.
DO NOT ALLOW THE CHARGING VOLTAGE TO EXCEED 13.5 VOLTS DURING THE PROCESS
1. Using the MUT III, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. Prior to reprogramming, check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the PCM and repair them as necessary according to the procedures given in the service manual.
2. Check the underside of the hood to verify that there is no label previously installed to indicate that this TSB reprogramming has already been done.
3. Ensure that all updates are available.
For MEDIC II users only: Stand alone Scan Tool (MUT III) users go to step 4.
a. Verify that the MEDIC II is at version 4.0A and at download M159 or higher.
^ If you MEDIC II is at version 4.0A or higher, go to the REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE.
^ If your MEDIC II version is below 4.0A update to 4.0A using MEDIC II System V4.0A CDs.
^ If your MEDIC II Down-load is below M159, update your MEDIC II as follows.
b. On the MEDIC-II main screen, click on "Maintenance".
c. Click on "Download". After the download completes, click on "Cancel" to exit the "Maintenance" window.
For Stand-alone MUT III users only:
4. If you have a stand alone Scan Tool (MUT-III), transfer the reprogramming data from the MUT-III
STV 17.0 / RAIDER STV 3.5 Upgrade CD to your MUT-III laptop as follows:
a. Check the Raider STV version number:
^ If your Raider STV is version 3.5 or greater, go to the REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE.
^ If your Raider STV version is below 3.5, go to Step 5 to update your database.
5. With the MUT-III laptop on, close the Raider STV and MUT-III STV.
6. Install the Reflash Update CD into the laptop.
7. Follow the instructions displayed on-screen for loading the database onto your laptop.
REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
1. Connect the equipment as follows:
a. Start the laptop computer.
b. Connect the USB cable to the VCI.
c. When the laptop displays the MUT-III main screen, connect the USB cable to the laptop.
d. Connect the blue MUT-III main harness to the VCI.
e. Connect the other end of the blue MUT-III main harness to the vehicle's data link connector.
f. Turn the VCI power switch ON. Verify that the indicator lamp in the upper right corner of the screen is green.
NOTE:
If the USB cable is disconnected during this procedure, a warning message will display. Close the message display by clicking on the OK button
2. Refer to the attachment at the end of this bulletin or the "Raider ECU Part Number & ECU Calibration" chart on the Mitsubishi Dealer Link in the Service Tech Resources page to identify the appropriate calibration for this programming.
3. Open Raider STV. In the Raider main menu, select Special Function
4. Select ECU Reprogramming.
5. Select Automatic Reprogramming.
6. Select PCM.
7. This window will pop up advising that the program will "Automatic search the data." Click on the check mark to continue
8. Compare the column titled "File Name" to the column titled "Current ECU P/N." I the current ECU part number is at or higher than the file name, this vehicle has already been programmed. DO NOT CONTINUE WITH THIS REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE. Click the Home Icon at the bottom left of the screen and return to the main menu.
9. Refer to Attachment 1 at the end of this TSB. Select the reprogramming database (calibration) listed in the "New ECU P/N" that matches the New Part # column from Attachment 1.
Then click on the check mark at the bottom of the screen.
10. Click on the check mark to continue with reprogramming. It will take up to 10 minutes to complete reprogramming.
NOTE:
DO NOT DISTURB THE HARNESS CABLES OR CONNECTIONS. INTERRUPTION DURING REPROGRAMMING REQUIRES THE REPROGRAMMING PROCESS TO BE RESTARTED.
11. When reprogramming is complete, this screen will display. Turn the ignition key OFF.
A screen will appear advising you to turn the key back on within 20 seconds.
12. This screen will display (CA 2WD spec part # shown). Be sure to note the new part number and confirm that it matches the part number from
the chart for the vehicle's specification.
Click on the check mark in the window to continue.
