Window Glass: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION













Required Special Tool:

- MB990528: Spatula, stripe tape

REMOVAL SERVICE POINT

[[A]] DELTA WINDOW GLASS ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

1. Make mating marks on the body and delta window glass assembly, and stick cloth tape around the delta window glass to protect body paint.





2. Apply cloth tape to prevent the delta window glass assembly from dropping.





3. Insert special tool MB990528 between the delta window glass molding and body panel as shown to create a gap. Insert a piano wire through the gap and loop it around the shown clip, taking care not to damage the molding. Then cut off the clips by pulling the piano wire.





4. Insert special tool MB990528 between the delta window glass molding and body panel as shown to create a gap. Drill a hole in the adhesive, taking care not to damage the molding.
Then pass a piano wire through the hole.





5. Pull the piano wire along the rear side of the delta window assembly as shown to cut the adhesive.





6. Repeat Step 4 to cut the adhesive along the bottom side of the delta window glass assembly.





7. Insert the piano wire along the front side of the delta window assembly as shown to cut the adhesive.
8. Remove the delta window glass assembly.

CAUTION:

- Be careful not to remove more adhesive than is necessary.
- Be careful also not to damage the paint on the body surface with the knife. If the paint is damaged, repair the damaged area with touch-up paint.

Use a knife to cut away the remaining adhesive so that the thickness is within 2 mm (0.08 inch) around the entire circumference of the body flange.
10. Finish the flange surfaces so that they are smooth.

CAUTION:
Allow the cleaned area to dry for at least three minutes. Do not touch any surface that has been cleaned.

When reusing the delta window glass assembly, remove the adhesive still adhering to the delta window glass assembly, and clean with 3M(TM) AAD Part number 8906 or equivalent.
12. Clean the body side in the same way.

INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS

]]A[[ GASKET/CLIP INSTALLATION









1. When reusing the delta window glass assembly, remove the remains of clip left on the delta window glass assembly after removal of it.
NOTE:
After removing the remains of clip, remove the remains as shown if it is left on the clip mounting hole.

CAUTION:
Remember to install the gasket.

2. Fit the clip to the delta window glass assembly while installing the gasket to the clip.

]]B[[ DELTA WINDOW GLASS ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION

CAUTION:
Leave the degreased parts for 3 or more minutes to dry well, before starting on the next step. Do not touch the degreased parts.

Use 3M(TM) AAD Part number 8906 or equivalent to degrease the inside and outside of the delta window glass assembly and the body flanges.

2. Install the delta window glass assembly using the same procedure as for the windshield installation (Refer to Removal and Replacement).
