ENGINE COOLANT CHANGE

Required Special Tool:

- MB991871: LLC Changer

1. WARNING:
When removing the radiator cap, use care to avoid contact with hot coolant or steam. Place a shop towel over the cap and turn the cap counterclockwise a little to let the pressure escape through the vinyl tube. After relieving the steam pressure, remove the cap by slowly turning it counterclockwise.

Drain the water from the radiator, heater core and engine after unplugging the radiator drain plug and removing the radiator cap.

2. Disconnect the cooling water line hose and drain the coolant in the water jacket. [2.4L ENGINE]

3. Disconnect the water feed hose B and drain the coolant in the water jacket. [3.0L ENGINE]

4. Drain the water in the water jacket by unplugging the drain plug of the cylinder block.
5. Remove the radiator condenser tank assembly and drain the coolant.
6. Connect the cooling water line hose. [2.4L ENGINE]
7. Connect the water feed hose B. [3.0L ENGINE]

8. Replace the cylinder block drain plug gasket, and tighten the drain plug to the specified torque.
Tightening torque:

39 ± 3 Nm [2.4L ENGINE]
29 ± 5 Nm [3.0L ENGINE-Left bank side]
140 ± 5 Nm [3.0L ENGINE-Right bank side]
9. Install the radiator condenser tank assembly.
10. Securely tighten the radiator drain plug.
11. Assemble the radiator condenser tank assembly.

12.
CAUTION:
Do not use alcohol or methanol anti-freeze or any engine coolants mixed with alcohol or methanol anti-freeze. The use of an improper anti-freeze can cause corrosion of the aluminum components.

Use special tool MB991871 to refill the engine coolant up to the top of the radiator port.

Recommended antifreeze: DIA QUEEN SUPER LONG LIFE COOLANT PREMIUM or equivalent*
*: similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrate and non-borate coolant with long life hybrid organic acid technology
Quantity:
9.5 dm3 (10.0 quarts) [Automatic transaxle]
7.5 dm3 (7.9 quarts) [CVT]
[includes 0.65 dm3 (0.69 quarts) in the radiator condenser tank]
13. Reinstall the radiator cap.
14. Start the engine and let it warm up until the thermostat opens.
15. After repeatedly revving the engine up to 3,000 r/min several times, stop the engine.
16. Remove the radiator cap after the engine has cooled, and pour in coolant up to the brim. Reinstall the cap.
17.
