Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation

Three-Way Catalytic Converter:

The catalytic converter is an emission control device added to the exhaust system to reduce hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions. The converter incorporates a honeycomb mesh coated with three catalysts. The catalytic material promotes burning (oxidation) of the pollutants as the gases pass through the converter. The gases are transformed into non-polluting gases H20 (water) and CO2 (carbon dioxide).
