IF YOU CONFIRM

A rubbing noise coming from the spiral cable when turning the steering wheel.

ACTION

Replace the spiral cable locating cap (see the Service Procedure).

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Write down the radio station presets.

2. Disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first).

WARNING:
^ Before removing the driver's air bag module, wait 3 minutes or more.

^ Always work from the side of the air bag module, never work in front of it.

^ Never use air tools or electric tools for servicing the air bag module.

3. Remove the driver's air bag module (center of steering wheel).

^ Refer to section SR in the Service Manual for air bag module removal.

4. Remove the steering wheel.

^ Refer to section ST in the Service Manual for steering wheel removal.





NOTE:
With the steering wheel removed you can see the spiral cable locating cap.

5. Use a small flat blade to remove the old cap.

6. Press the new cap into place.

7. Reinstall the steering wheel.

^ Refer to section ST in the Service Manual for steering wheel installation.

8. Reinstall the driver's air bag module.

^ Refer to section SR in the Service Manual for air bag module installation.

^ Make sure to use new Torx(R) bolts (listed in the Parts Information).

9. Reconnect the battery cables - positive cable first.

10. Reset the clock and the radio station presets.

11. Initialize the sunroof and power windows.

^ Refer to the Service Manual as needed.

12. Make sure the incident is fixed.
