SERVICE PROCEDURE

REPROGRAMMING CAUTION

TCM Reprogramming

IMPORTANT: Before starting:
^ Make sure ASIST on the CONSULT III (C-III) computer has been freshly synchronized (updated).

^ Confirm all C-III software updates (if any) have been installed.

NOTE:
The C-III computer automatically gets applicable TCM reprogramming data during ASIST synchronization.

^ TCM initialization is not needed for this campaign reprogramming.

1. Make sure to check for DTCs in all systems. Repair and clear as needed.

^ This bulletin does not cover repairs for DTCs.

2. Navigate C-III to the reprogramming screen shown in Figure 1 above.

NOTE:
^ Do not use the "Reprogramming / Programming" selection.

^ Select the Model and Model Year, and then navigate to Direct Diagnosis > Reprogramming.

^ TCM initialization is not needed for this campaign reprogramming.

3. On your C-III screen, look for a Transmission Part Number in the Part Number column (see Figure 1 example).

^ If there is no Transmission Part Number listed, this bulletin does not apply.

^ If a Transmission Part Number is listed, write it on the Repair Order and then go to Step 4.

4. Compare the P/N you wrote down to the numbers in the Current TCM P/N column in Table A above.

^ If there is a match this bulletin applies. Continue with the reprogramming procedure.

^ If there is not a match, this campaign does not apply or it has already been done. Close C-III and check Service Comm to confirm campaign eligibility.

5. If this bulletin applies and you have performed TCM reprogramming; when reprogramming is complete, the screen in Figure 2 displays.

6. Erase DTCs in all systems.

^ During TCM reprogramming, DTCs will set in several systems and must be erased before ECM reprogramming.

7. Go to ECM Reprogramming below.

ECM Reprogramming

^ Make sure TCM reprogramming was done first.

^ Make sure to erase DTCs from all systems.

1. Restart the C-III session (select the Home icon in the upper left corner of the screen).

2. Navigate C-III to the ECM Reprogramming screen shown in Figure 1A.

^ Use the "Reprogramming / Programming" selection.

^ Do not use Direct Diagnosis > Reprogramming.

3. On your C-III screen, look at the Part Number column (see Figure 1A example):

^ If this column is blank (no part number listed), this reprogramming does not apply. Close C-III and check Service Comm to confirm campaign eligibility.

^ If a Part Number is listed, write it on the Repair Order.

4. Compare the Part Number you wrote down to the numbers in the Current ECM P/N column in Table A-1.

^ If there is a match, this bulletin applies. Continue with the reprogramming procedure.

NOTE
^ If there are two Engine lines (two ECM reprogramming options) on your C-III screen, use the one that does not have the message "Caution! Use ONLY with NTBXX-XXX".

^ If there is not a match, this reprogramming does not apply or it has already been done. Close C-III and check Service Comm to confirm campaign eligibility.

5. When ECM reprogramming is complete, the screen in Figure 2A displays.

NOTE:
If the screen in Figure 2A does not display (reprogramming does not complete) refer to NTB10-027.

6. Make sure to erase DTCs from all systems.

NOTE:
During reprogramming, DTCs will set in several systems and must be erased.

7. Go to IAVL below.

IAVL (Idle Air Volume Lean) Procedure

1. Make sure all DTCs are cleared (erased).

2. Use C-III to confirm / perform the following Pre-Conditions:

NOTE:
The IAVL procedure will self-cancel if any of the following Pre-Conditions are not met and maintained for as long as the procedure is running.

3. Turn the ignition "OFF" and wait at least 10 seconds.

4. Start the engine and let it idle for at least 30 seconds.

5. Using C-III, navigate to WORK SUPPORT > IDLE AIR VOL LEARN.

6. Select START and wait for "CMPLT" to display (20 seconds to 2 minutes).

7. For 2008 Rogue, go to Fluid Level Check below.

^ For 2009 and 2010 Rogue, skip to Final Check below.

Fluid Level Check (for 2008 Rogue only)

1. Warm up the transmission:

CAUTION:
DO NOT "stall test" the transmission to warm it up.

^ Let the engine idle until transmission is warm, or

^ Hold engine rpm at 2000 until the transmission is warm, or

^ Take the vehicle for a test drive to warm the transmission.

2. Park the vehicle on a level service.

3. Apply the parking brake.

4. Use C-III to confirm transmission (CVT) fluid temperature.

a. Navigate C-III to System Diagnosis > Transmission > Data Monitor.

b. Confirm Transmission temperature is 50 to 80°C (122 to 176°F).

5. With engine at idle, move the shift selector to each gear and then back to Park.

6. Remove the dipstick from the transmission fill tube.

^ Push the tab to release the dipstick lock.

7. Wipe the dipstick clean with lint-free paper (do not use a cloth).

8. Install the dipstick 180 from the locked position as shown.

^ Make sure it is all the way in.

9. Remove the dipstick.

10. Make sure the fluid level is at correct range as shown.

^ Any point at or between MIN and MAX is OK.

^ Drain or fill the transmission fluid as needed to obtain the correct level.

CAUTION:
Do not over fill.

11. After fluid level is set correctly, reinstall the dipstick in the locked position.

Final Check

Test drive the vehicle and make sure the transmission and engine operate correctly, and the Check Engine light is OFF.
