ADDITIONAL TROUBLE SHOOTING INFORMATION 1979-87 280ZX AND 300ZX SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM
If the two-pin connector for the interlock solenoid is connected in reverse, i.e., backward, the diode that controls current in the coil will be damaged, in which case the solenoid will not operate. Therefore, during installation of the shift interlock kit, be very careful to assure the correct direction of the connector. (If it is plugged in backward it will go into place only with difficulty.) The wires should match, red to red and black to black.
If the interlock solenoid connector has been connected backward, disconnect, re-connect correctly and try again. If the solenoid still does not operate, use a jumper wire and your remote starter switch to test. Use the starter remote to connect a positive (+) 12V source to the red wire side of the two pin connector, and connect a grounded jumper at the black wire side. Close the remote starter switch. The solenoid should operate. If it does not, then try another shift interlock lever assembly.
