APPLIED VEHICLE(S):
1987 Truck, Pathfinder and Van with the Z24i engine

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the Z24i engine in a 1987 Truck, Pathfinder or Van vehicle exhibits a higher than normal fast idle speed (above 2000 rpm), adjust clearance "G" of the fast idle adjustment to 1.4 mm (0.055 in.) as described below.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Warm up the engine sufficiently.

2. Make sure that the aligning mark "A" stamped on the fast idle cam meets the center of the roller installed on the cam follow lever. If it does not meet the center of the roller, change the location of the fast idle cam by turning the adjusting screw (S1). If not adjustable, replace the thermo element (part number 16391-12G00, packaging information is listed below).

3. Adjust clearance "G" between the roller and the fast idle cam to 1.4 mm (0.055 in.) by turning the adjusting screw (S2).

Make sure the engine is warm before adjusting clearance "G".

THERMO ELEMENT PACKAGING INFORMATION

The thermo element (P/N 16391-12G00) is packaged in a brass case with a strong spring to keep the plunger from expanding when heated as shown.

To remove the thermo element from the case, open a bench vise so that the tabs (not the case) contact the vise edges as shown. Push on the spring end of the case and remove the thermo element. Discard the case and spring.
