4WD Models

Front axle exploded view-4WD:





1. Remove locking hub as outlined.
2. Remove brake caliper retaining bolts and secure caliper aside. Do not allow caliper to hang from brake hose.
3. Remove retaining screw and lock washer, Fig. 5, then remove bearing locknut using wrench KV40105400 or equivalent.
4. Remove hub assembly from steering knuckle, taking care not to drop outer bearing.
5. Remove outer bearing, pry seal from rear of hub, then remove inner bearing.
6. Scribe matching marks between hub and rotor, then separate rotor from hub.
7. Clean hub and bearings with suitable solvent and blow dry with compressed air.
8. Inspect bearings for damage scoring and wear, and replace as needed.
9. If bearings are to be replaced, replace bearing outer races as follows:
a. Drive outer races from hub using suitable drift.
b. Install new outer races using suitable driver, ensuring races are fully seated in hub. Replace hub if bearing outer races are loose in hub.
10. Pack bearings with suitable grease, working grease through rollers from wide end of bearing with palm of hand. Keep bearings covered until installation.
11. Mount rotor on hub with matching marks aligned and torque bolts to 36-51 ft. lbs.
12. Pack center of hub with suitable grease, then install inner bearing in hub.
13. Coat seal lip with grease, then install seal in rear of hub using suitable driver.
14. Install hub assembly and adjust wheel bearing preload as outlined under ``Wheel Bearings, Adjust.''
15. Reverse remaining procedure to complete installation. When installing locking hub, select snap ring that will provide .004-.012 endplay at drive axle.
