SERVICE INFORMATION
A new adapter plate has been implemented on the FS5R3OA and RS5R3OA transmissions. There are no detent holes or related components (check ball, spring and bolt) on the new adapter plate.

The function of the detent hole and its related components was to prevent the reverse shift fork from breaking. Beginning July 10, 1986, the reverse shift fork material was changed eliminating the need for the detent hole and the detent related components.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Except for the 1986.5 Truck, the new adapter plate can be used as a full replacement on all FS5R3OA and RS5R3OA transmissions. Discard the original set of detent components from the adapter plate being replaced.

For the 1986.5 Truck, in addition to the new adapter plate replacement, you must install a new reverse shift fork, P/N 32819-01G60.
