Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Crank Angle Sensor Testing:






1. Remove the crank angle sensor from the engine.
2. Disconnect all of the ignition wires from the distributor cap and turn the ignition switch ON.
3. Using a volt meter, check voltage between terminal 1 and ground while rotating it slowly. Compare readings to those in the image.
4. Using a volt meter, check voltage between terminal 2 and ground while rotating it slowly. Compare readings to those in the image.

NOTE: This test may set Code 11. Be sure to clear the ECU 's memory after repairs are finished.

Signal Plate Inspection:





5. Visually inspect the signal plate for damage or dust.

Replace the sensor if it fails the above test.
