EXTRACTING CODES

1. Access the ECM from the floor under the passenger's seat and position it for observing the diodes.
2. Start the engine.
3. Turn the diagnostic mode selector on the ECM fully clockwise until both diodes flash 5 times then turn the selector fully counterclockwise. The ECCS system is now in mode 5.

TECH TIP: Remember to turn the mode selector screw back (counterclockwise) right after you see the diodes flash five times. If you wait too long, the self-diagnostics will have moved back to mode 1.

4. Road test the vehicle to duplicate customer complaint or problem.
If the diodes do not flash while driving or idling there is not a problem. Proceed to step #5.
If the diodes do flash, refer to MODE 5 CODE CHART for interpretation of code and proceed to DIAGNOSTIC CHART for diagnosis.
5. Turn the ignition switch off. Turning the engine off will return the ECCS system to "Mode 1" (normal operating mode).
