SERVICE INFORMATION

Use the procedures in this bulletin if a 1991-95 Sentra or a 1995 200SX vehicle with the GA16DE engine exhibits the following symptoms:

^ Transmission slips or no shift
^ Excessive debris in the oil pan
^ Noise during operation of the forward clutch (all forward gears).

If these symptoms occur, the cause may be excessive wear to the inner race bushing of the forward clutch (see Figure 1). The cause of the bushing wear may be flaking from the taper bearing and scuffing of the pinion mate shaft.

A countermeasure taper bearing has been released to resolve this incident.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Disassemble the transmission (see Figure 2).
2. Inspect the forward clutch inner race bushing.
3. Inspect the pinion mate shaft and taper bearing for wear marks.
4. Replace the pinion mate shaft and the taper bearing if wear marks are found.
