Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Description and Operation

PURPOSE AND OPERATION
The electrical components of the fuel system (i.e. injectors, fuel pump and fuel pump relay) are controlled by the Electronic Concentrated Engine Control System (ECCS) computer, or Engine Control Module (ECM). The operation of the control circuits are discussed in Computers and Control Systems.

The fuel system is designed to allow delivery of a precise amount of air/fuel mixture in response to the throttle valve opening and engine operating conditions. The fuel system consists of the following components:

- Accelerator pedal
- Air cleaner
- Fuel filter
- Fuel injectors
- Fuel lines
- Fuel pressure regulator
- Fuel pump
- Fuel pump relay
- Fuel tank
- Idle control system
- Intake collector
- Throttle chamber
